Eden’s Election Moves Forward to July 9th

LONDON (Bywire News) – It’s that time again – Eden is gearing up for an election on July 9th and it could be its most important yet. Here’s why, whatever you’ve involvement in EOS, you should drop what you’re doing, head to Eden’s YouTube channel and watch Eden’s democratic process.

Eden runs a revolutionary process of fractal democracy and aims to provide an expression of democracy that more accurately reflects the will of the community.

Under this process, any Eden member can sign up to take part in the election. All participants are divided into groups of five. They go into meetings where they vote for a single delegate from that group who will progress to the next round. The remaining delegates will then be divided into new groups and the process repeats itself until five ‘chief delegates’ are left. A head chief delegate from within that group will be randomly selected from sortition.

Chief Delegates play an important role. They are each allocated funds which they can use to support projects which they believe will enhance the EOS ecosystem. They can also discuss the direction of EOS and propose changes to the laws governing Eden.

The second set of chief delegates is now coming to the end of their terms. Under the first group, terms were set at six months but proposed changes to the bylaws reduced this to three months meaning the third election would take place on July 9th.

Those proposals were ratified by the second set of chief delegates bringing forward the date from October to July. However, the timing leaves little time to get ready. Eden will want to see as many people taking part as possible to build upon the success of the previous elections and to further demonstrate the potential of its fractal democratic model.

At a time when deficiencies in the traditional first past the post-voting mechanisms are all too apparent, their new model could have value way beyond Eden and even the entire blockchain ecosystem. It aims to ensure the best people rise to the top – something which definitely has not been happening recently in most western democracies – and to ensure Eden’s direction reflects the will of its members.

For that to happen Eden needs one thing more than anything else – participation and lots of it. Anyone who is a member of Eden can take part. The election will be played out on Eden’s YouTube channel. To take part, head to https://genesis.eden.eoscommunity.org/ where you’ll be invited to sign in to participate. If you had already signed up to take part in the original election to be held on October 8th you’ll have to resubmit your details to be included for the new date of July 9th.
